USA Dance Senior Vice President Candidate Resume
I am married to James Steven and I have two sons (Todd and Page) and four grandchildren.
Over 31 years I had a successful management career at BellSouth Corporation. During that time I held various positions including Acting Director in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Management Staffing and Development, Manager of Corporate Direction, Residence Marketing and Plant Manager.
USA Dance Career:
I joined USA Dance shortly after Chapter 5031 was formed in late 1998 and became a board member within 6 months of my membership. I held a position on the board until the last election when I gave it up to focus on my national responsibilities. I continue to co-chair the chapter’s annual fundraiser. I was the chapter president for 1 ½ years and left to become the organizer of what is now the Gumbo DanceSport Championships. Over the last 15 years, at my direction, this competition has grown from a small 1 day competition to a full 3 days and is recognized as one of the best NQE’s in the country. In addition to the Gumbo, for the past 2 years I have led the Nationals team, producing 2 profitable national championships. In 2014, I was appointed to the Governing Council as the Director of Development and only recently vacated that position when President Peter Pover appointed me Senior Vice President. This position took place upon his resignation as President for health reasons at the end of July. This year I was also asked to join the DanceSport Council in charge of competitions and relinquished that position upon being named Senior Vice President.
My professional training and experience, plus my volunteer years of leading fellow volunteers and building teams with them assures me that I have a number of skills that are now lacking at the top level of this valuable organization. I am committed to selflessly give my knowledge and expertise to achieve the vision set forth by those who came together to form USABDA and to build on their vision of USA Dance’s potential. I also believe that new ideas are valuable to the longevity of USA Dance.
