Roger Greenawalt – Candidate for DanceSport Delegate

I am applying for the position of DanceSport Delegate.  Please accept this letter as my “Qualification Resume.”

I have served USA Dance as DanceSport Delegate since 2005.  I placed in the top 50% of my championship category at 2014 Nationals (won Sr. 3 Smooth & 9-Dance).

Other background information:

I founded the Heartland (Indianapolis) USA Dance Chapter in 1993, served as initial president and have stayed involved as DJ for 23 years.  I helped establish three other chapters in Indiana. In my role with the Indy Chapter I have helped organize 20+ Indy competitions including the 1998 National Championships held in Indianapolis.

When USA Dance was organized into regions, I was appointed as the DanceSport Athlete for my region.  I have served as a DanceSport Delegate for about 11 years.  Most of that time I have chaired the Competition Committee and also represented the athletes on the Executive Council.  My current duties on the DSC involve modification and update of the Rulebook as well as investigation of disciplinary issues and proposal of recommendations.

On the Executive Committee I have led the investigation and preparation of responses in regard to complaints and grievances—most recently, several complaints arising from the Dance Camp endorsed by USA Dance University prior to 2016 Nationals. The responses generated positive feedback among committee members.

Through my work on the DSC, Governing Council and Executive Council, I have gained extensive knowledge as to the “inner workings” of USA Dance as well as the responsibilities of all the elected positions.

As a competitor I have won a dozen national championships in the senior divisions of rhythm, smooth and 9-dance.  I am an active member of two other dance clubs and bring a broad perspective in regard to both competitive and social dancing.

In addition, I have organized an annual showcase/dance for 21 years; the past few have drawn approximately 300 attendees, and proceeds have benefited a Special Olympics dance program.

I believe my placements and background are sufficient to continue to serve USA Dance as a DanceSport Delegate.

Thank you for your consideration.
